The movie is about a psychologist who is asked by a friend to come aboard a space station because "weird things" are happening there. Once aboard, he notices that 2 of the crew members are dead, one having committed suicide and the other... I can't remember what happened to the other but there was a lot of blood.
The space station itself is orbiting newly discovered star called Solaris, and is there to calculate weather Solaris can be used as a profitable energy source or what not.
So anyway, the shrink gets talking with the crew members and all they can say is generally summable as "it's really hard to explain... it'll happen to you soon, then we'll talk".
The day being over, the psychologist goes to his quarters to sleep and has a weird dream involving his dead ex-wife and the night they met (she was holding a doorknob, I can only guess why) Throughout the dream, we get to see a few details about his marriage and his wife.
Once the dream reaches it's end pretty much, he is awoken by nothing less than his wife.
I'm gonna stop there because I don't wanna give away anything about the movie, other than the fact that it deals with the one question that has made us scratch our heads ever since we could conceptualize: "Why/How are we here?" It's a really good 90's sci-fi flick and is REALLY worth watching.
[Warning] for all you action lovers, this is FAR from being an action movie.
